Professional Experience: With over six years as a furniture designer and fabricator at Bancroft Design, I've developed expertise in creating custom furniture solutions for commercial and residential environments. My work encompasses the complete design-to-fabrication process, from initial concept development through final installation.
Design Approach: I combine human-centered design principles with deep material knowledge and structural engineering to create furniture that excels in both form and function. My background in industrial design informs every project, ensuring solutions that are not only aesthetically compelling but also ergonomically sound and built to last.
Project: Designed and built custom beer garden tables and seating for Harpoon Brewery's Vermont location, designed to withstand New England weather while providing a comfortable, brand-appropriate dining experience.
Process: Tables are made from premium okoume marine plywood and finished with an epoxy finish to withstand the elements.
Outcome: Delivered a cohesive set of outdoor furniture that enhanced the brewery's patio experience and withstood heavy use and weather exposure.
Project: Helped build custom furniture pieces for Zipcar's office in Cambridge, MA.
Process: Used Rhino 3D to create CAD files to run on Shop Sabre CNC router. All pieces hand finished with polyurethane.
Outcome: Delivered and installed custom furniture workstations and storage solutions. To the Zipcar office.
Project: Helped iterate on designs and built modular, portable furniture for Street Lab's public space activation initiatives in New York City. The pieces needed to be easily transported, quickly assembled, and durable for outdoor public use.
Process: Collaborated with Street Lab to understand their mobile programming needs. Developed prototypes and final productsthat balanced portability with stability.
Outcome: Delivered furniture solutions that supported Street Lab's mission of transforming public spaces into vibrant community areas, with pieces that have been deployed across multiple NYC locations.
Project: Created custom retail fixtures and display elements for M.Gemi's Boston location, designed to showcase their premium Italian footwear and accessories while embodying their brand aesthetic.
Process: Worked with M.Gemi's team to understand their brand positioning and retail display needs. Selected materials that conveyed quality while providing functional display solutions for their products.
Outcome: Delivered elegant retail fixtures that enhanced the customer experience and product presentation, contributing to the boutique shopping environment.
Project: Helped build custom walnut cafeteria tables for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, balancing aesthetic considerations with the practical demands of a high-traffic museum cafe.
Process: Collaborated with the ICA team to develop tables that complemented the museum's architecture while providing durable, functional seating for visitors. Selected materials that would withstand intensive cleaning and heavy use.
Outcome: Delivered tables that enhanced the visitor dining experience while meeting the museum's maintenance and durability requirements.
Project: Contributed to a custom reception desk project featuring white ebony veneer for a corporate client. My primary responsibility was crafting the desktop portion of this striking reception area centerpiece.
Process: Worked with premium white ebony veneer to create the desktop surface, focusing on the technical challenges of large-scale veneer application and joinery.
Outcome: The completed reception desk served as a distinctive centerpiece for the client's lobby, enhancing their brand presentation while efficiently supporting front desk operations.
Project: Developed a series of conceptual furniture designs exploring different aesthetic directions, structural approaches, and material combinations using CAD modeling.
Process: Created detailed 3D models to visualize different design approaches before committing to physical prototypes. Explored innovative mechanisms, material combinations, and form factors for both storage solutions and bed designs.
Outcome: Generated a portfolio of furniture design concepts that could be presented to clients or adapted for specific projects, showing range of design thinking and aesthetic possibilities across different furniture categories.
Project: Designed and built a collection of custom furniture pieces for residential clients, including coffee tables, side tables, shelving, desks, and seating.
Process: Worked directly with clients to understand their needs, space constraints, and aesthetic preferences. Selected materials that balanced beauty with durability and created detailed fabrication plans.
Outcome: Delivered unique, handcrafted furniture pieces that fit perfectly with clients' spaces and needs, demonstrating attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Project: While working as a Design Engineer at DCL, I engineered specialized installation pieces for corporate clients including Columbia Records and LogMeIn.
Process: Developed engineering solutions that addressed functional requirements while creating visually compelling installations. Worked with fabrication partners to ensure successful implementation of complex design elements.
Outcome: Delivered unique branded installations that helped clients differentiate their spaces and express their brand identity through physical environments.
My journey as a designer began with a degree in Industrial Design from Wentworth Institute of Technology and six years as a furniture maker/woodworker at Bancroft Design. I developed a deep appreciation for human centered design, materials, and crafting tangible solutions. This hands-on experience solving real-world problems evolved into a role as a Design Engineer at Design Communications Ltd and finally into the digital realm, where I've focused on web design, development, and UI/UX.
I'm driven by a curiosity for understanding people's needs and an obsession with designing elegant, intuitive solutions, whether physical objects or digital interfaces. I thrive on the entire design process, from initial research and ideation to prototyping, testing, and refinement.
My background spanning both physical and digital design gives me a unique perspective for creating new user experiences that bridge the gap between tangible and virtual interactions.
Key Skill Areas: Industrial Design Principles, CAD Software (SolidWorks, Rhino 3D, Fusion 360, AutoCAD), Woodworking, Welding, Fabrication.
Other Skills: UX/UI Design (Figma, Adobe Suite), User Research, Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Wireframing, Prototyping, Usability Testing, Front-End Development (HTML, CSS, JS)
